Who Are The Stars In Your Community?

by | Aug 30, 2024 | Press

INDIVIDUALS, groups and businesses are being urged to champion the unsung stars within their community by nominating them for prestigious awards.

North Kesteven District Council has launched its search to find and celebrate the work of those who are making a real difference in numerous ways – and to honour them in this year’s NK Community Champion Awards.

The aim is to say “thank you” to people who enrich the lives of others through their voluntary actions by operating selflessly, tirelessly, charitably and consistently,  in carrying out tasks and functions which improve the lives of others.

They may be known for quietly get on with litter picking, running sports clubs or enabling art and creativity to flourish. Others may concentrate on supporting the health and wellbeing of others or actively promote positive climate action.

They could simply be a good neighbour or an inspirational young person, who embodies community spirit in whatever they do.

The Awards feature 10 categories and the Council and community-focused sponsoring businesses want to extend a huge “thank you” to everyone who contributes to its District of Flourishing Communities by their voluntary actions.

Nomination categories have been defined to celebrate the broad scope of areas where individuals, organisations, groups and businesses contribute to life in North Kesteven by virtue of their selfless, tireless, generous and voluntary actions, as well as their mindset and endeavours.

These categories mean there is plenty of choice when it comes to making a nomination and it is easy to do.

Now, people who have benefited from, or been impressed by good neighbours, young achievers, community businesses and those who contribute to sports, health and well-being, the arts and culture, a better environment or climate action – or whose sheer community spiritedness or commitment to a single or organisation is outstanding – are urged to shout about it.

Make sure you get your nominations in before the closing date of September 16.Visit www.NKawards.org to see the nomination categories.

Sponsors committed to making the Awards happen are: Lindum Group, Branston Ltd; GLL/Better, the Council’s arts and leisure contract partner, Schroders Greencoat, owners of the Sleaford Renewable Energy Plant, and The Hub, the Council’s arts venue, where the celebration evening will take place.

Others are considering the opportunity to join the party and any business, which would like to complete the sponsors’ line-up – and play a vital role in ensuring the good work of the District’s amazing volunteers is celebrated and championed – can email: champions@n-kesteven.gov.uk

NKDC Leader Councillor Richard Wright said: “Volunteering and selfless participation in community life, running clubs, inspiring others, giving generously of time, effort and resources, looking out for neighbours, thinking, caring, taking positive action and generally making things happen, is a defining characteristic of so many people who contribute to our District of Flourishing Communities.

“They enrich all of our lives in ways that we don’t always realise or recognise but, through these awards we can all express how much we appreciate them and what they do, bringing them to wider attention for awards and applause.

“It is only through grateful recipients, proud parents or appreciative clients and customers that we can celebrate and champion such unsung heroes.

“I encourage anyone to nominate and tell us about everyone they think deserves an award for the difference they make to the lives of individuals or entire communities anywhere in North Kesteven.”
